Medical and scientific advisory network

The research underlying Barefoot Science and Biopods technologies has developed over more than four decades. During that period, medical professionals, sports training experts, clinicians, and biomechanics specialists reviewed concepts, tested product iterations, advised the lead researchers, and in some cases used the technologies clinically.

Peter J. Fowler, MD FRCS(C)

Dr. Fowler was a world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon, former Medical Director of the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, former president of major orthopaedic sports medicine societies, and chair of the Barefoot Science Medical Advisory Board. He headed Canadian medical teams at numerous Commonwealth and Olympic Games and was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2018.

Thomas McClain, MD ABOS AAOS

Dr. McClain is an orthopaedic surgeon with experience in adult reconstruction and orthopaedic trauma. Historical advisor materials document his clinical experience using Barefoot Science technology in cases involving foot, knee, hip, and lower-back presentations.

Tudor Bompa, PhD

Dr. Bompa is Professor Emeritus at York University and internationally recognized for his work in theory of training, coaching, periodization, strength training, and sport-performance development.

Michael Yessis, PhD

Dr. Yessis is a biomechanics and sports-training specialist, Professor Emeritus at California State University, and long-time consultant to elite athletes and professional sport organizations.

Bruce Comstock, HBSc DC

Dr. Comstock is a Toronto chiropractor with extensive clinical experience in sports injuries, spine and joint rehabilitation, and historical clinical use of Barefoot Science technology.

Lawrence Bell, MSc DC FCCSS(C) FICC ART

Dr. Bell is a chiropractic sports specialist with clinical experience across more than 40 international events, including Olympic Games, World Track and Field Championships, World Triathlon, and World Women’s Hockey Championships.

Samuel G. A. Dubé, PhD

Dr. Dubé is Professor Emeritus at Carleton University, a strength biomechanics expert, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with experience advising national and world-class athletes.
